Earls Colne & Bures v Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI on Sun 09 Sep 2007 at 1.00pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 5 wickets
With 4 defeats on the trot we were keen to finish on a high and another lost toss meant we were once again in the field. We relied on a totally under 20 attack throughout and whilst Earls Colne started brightly reaching 50-1 in about 10 overs, from hereon in we were mainly in control.
The highlight without question was Tom Smith who we had not used as a bowler throughout the season but showed what an oversight the skipper had made by picking up 5 wickets for just 19 in his 10 overs (but for 2 dropped catches it may have been better). Chambers held the lower order together to score a good 62 before their innings finally closed in the 43rd over for 175.
On a decent track and smallish pitch, this target looked well below par and Chris T and myself started well and the 50 came up in the 10th over without loss. However, the skipper chased a wide one and edged behind soon after. Then, in a similar fashion to the day before, several of a strongish looking top order failed to shine. Chris nevertheless continued to bat well and his 50 came up during an over in which he plundered 20 in 4 balls.
When Chris was bowled for an excellent 81 it was left to Glen (26*) and James (14*) to see us home with 5 wickets and plenty of overs to spare.
