Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI v Shalford on Sun 05 Aug 2007 at 2.00pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 10 wickets
The PDQ side marched emphatically into the semi finals of the knock out cup and a tie away at St Osyth from the first division.
Shalford from the division above us won the toss and elected to bat on a perfect batting strip and in hot sunny conditions. As has been the case on numerous occasions this year, our opening attack (Glen & Andy this time) bowled very tight spells restricting them to just 11 from the first 10 overs. They were able to accelerate the rate in due course with opener Grice holding it together with a careful 68. Five of the 8 wickets fell to Alex and Chris whilst Leo bowled well without luck and John finished with five fiery overs to ensure a below par 200 for 8.
With a very strong batting line up, Chris Salmon and Duncan Bucknell got the nod to open and as I walked out to umpire, I told them I'd be happy to see them knock them off. And so they did. They both played their natural, aggressive games and whilst this invariably leads to a few chances, on this occasion the ball dropped into gaps and nothing actually went to hand. Both batted really well overall, appreciating the excellent batting conditions supplied by our illustrious chairman, Chris making his second ton for us this season and Duncan an excellent 79.
The semi final is on 2nd September with a final at Castle Park on 16th September should we overcome the final hurdle.
