Chappel & Wakes Colne 2 v Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI on Sun 29 Jul 2007 at 2.00pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 169 runs
We were put in on a damp but well rolled wicket and Tutts and Stuart found the early going difficult. However, with the pitch drying they got to grips before the latter was caught at mid wicket on 59 in the 14th over. Matt and Tutts then put on nearly 100 in the next 14 and rarely looked in trouble. Tutts went on to make an impressive 134 with the highlight a six over cover (the longer of the two boundaries).
We should, with the batting line up we had, have attained 300 but a steady flow of wickets led to us finishing on 262 for 8 which still seemed a good total with bowling in depth available to us.
Malcolm soon had the first opener lbw in the third over and after brief resistance by the second wicket pair, Glen and Franko soon had them reeling at 48 for 5 in the 17th over. The latter was on 4-9 after 5 overs but couldn't emulate Leo's achievement of a five-for from a few weeks back however hard he tried.
With 8 wickets down with the score at only 56, it seemed the opposition were then intent on occupying as long as possible perhaps with a view of obtaining a bonus point or two. They edged their way to the 80s before the skipper decided to bring on the raw pace to try to bring matters to a conclusion. Duncan B duly did so, skittling the last 2 wickets with his first 15 deliveries.
