Little Baddow Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v High Easter on Sat 22 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Lost 124 Runs
A greenish pitch greeted the Edge who won the toss and decided to put the opposition in, as the the High Easter captain would have done.
Glenda manages to extract some indifferent bounce from his end and takes the first wicket with a simple catch to the Welshman. At the other end the Windmill struggles to find his line & length before being replaced by the Predator who also is not quite at the races. During the middle part of the innings we manage to pick up a number of injuries as firstly Big Dog splits a finger and then Blaydesy does the same thing off his own bowling, while a number of tight groins & hamstrings hamper us further in the field. The Windmill returns to pick up a couple of wickets as does the Edge but we are unable to prevent the oppo from passing the 300 mark off their 45 overs.
After tea we get off to a decent start before Big Dog is bowled off his legs, then Robbie misses a straight one to leave us precariusly placed. Our fate is effectly doomed as firstly the Edge runs out the Welshman with a suicidal call and then Blaydesy is caught plumb in front. From here on the Edge decides to try to muster as many batting points as possible but receives little support until the Predator plays nicely for his highest score of the season. Unfortunately after the Predator departs the tail goes down like a roll of lino to leave us all out for 179 and the Edge unbeaten on 71.
The moral of this game is that we did not perform well enough with the ball. Our bowlers need to bowl a consistent line & length so that field placings can be set accordingly. To illustrate this fact we have now conceded 57 wides in the last 3 games, this is not good enough at any level of the game least of all against the side top of the table!
