Little Baddow Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Rettendon on Sat 01 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 3 Wickets
Once again LBCC take to the field for what looks like being one of the hardest games of the season. As per usual Glenda is superb, wheeling his way through his 12 overs for only 25 runs while being a little unlucky not to pick up a wicket or two. The Windmill comes off his sick bed to ably support Glenda but it is the introduction of the middle Bucknell that starts to sway things Baddow's way. Bowling with genuine pace and control he takes the first 4 wickets to fall, 3 smart catches by Sparky (deputising for Chunky behind the timbers) and an excellent grab by the Silver Fox at third man. Mini Shane is then introduced into the attack and he puts in his most controlled spell of the season, he claims 1 wicket from a top edge before then pulling off the most outrageous run out to see off the oppo's dangerous looking number 3 (Champagne moment of the day). The Windmill returns to pick up a couple of wickets while the middle Bucknell pulls off another fine run out from his own bowling. Rettendon finish on 192-9 from their 45 overs. A superb effort in the field with Jnr Cole in particular giving his all for the cause.
Due to the World Cup Quarter Final our innings will be split into 2 sessions.
The first 14 over stint sees the loss of Sparky and the middle Bucknell however LBCC get to the break at 60-2 with Big Dog looking in good touch against some aggressive bowling. After another inept England performance the mood is somewhat downbeat as the 2 sides return to the field. From there Big Dog & Blaydesy put together another good stand, picking off the bad balls and resolutely seeing off the good ones. Shortly after not notching his 4th consecutive league fifty, Big Dog holes out to extra cover and then Blaydesy is gunned down (sorry skip) to leave LBCC precariously placed, but the Baddow boys aren't done yet and the Chav puts together a great knock of 36 to put us within touching distance. After the Chav departs the South African supports the middle order before experience comes to the fore. The Silver Fox finishes unbeaten and the Windmill comes in to smash 2 consecutive boundaries, the first through his legs and the second carved to third man,to see us home with 3 overs to spare.
An unbelievable effort from all 11 LBCC players to keep the winning run going and probably the best cricketing performance by any LBCC side ever!
