Batting first, early progress was relatively modest in the context of what was to follow. Chris fell in the 9th over with 39 on the board, then Calvin and Andy added 82 for the second wicket in the next 11 overs before Calvin was out for 59. When Andy fell soon after we were reasonably well placed at 126 for 3 at the end of the 22nd over, but aware that a substantial total was needed on the small ground at Herongate. Enter the Aussies, who put on 246 for the 4th wicket (surely a club record?) in just over 22 overs with both recording their maiden league hundreds for the club. Brad was particularly brutal, his innings including 13 sixes and 7 fours before he was out in the last over for a superb 136. Mickey remianed undefeated for an excellent 103, his first ton in any form of cricket.
In the absense of leading wicket taker Stuart with a leg injury, Tom and Charlie shared the new ball and, needing a good start, the home side lost an early wicket to a run out. Tom and Charlie kept it reasonably tight and Tom picked up a wicket in the 13th over. At the half way point, the home side had less than a hundred on the board and, despite having wickets in hand, the asking rate was more than 12 an over. The introduction of Mickey into the attack in the 29th over proved to be a turning point, picking up the wickets of Follett (77) in his first over and Palmer (62) in his second. None of the subsequent batsmen managed a significant contribution and with the asking rate continuing to rise, Ross took 3 quick wickets before Tom returned to finish the innings for 222 in 40 overs.
A good win for maximum points, and with Stock missing out on 2 bonus points in their win, we overtake them at the top of the table by a single point.
