Brookweald v Little Baddow Cricket Club Saturday Ist XI on Sat 01 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 9 wickets
A scorching hot day and a beautiful setting with a good looking track and a large outfield, so inevitably we fielded first!
Stuart continued his good form and bowled a superb opening spell of 7 over for 17 runs and was perhaps unlucky to pick up just a single wicket. Excellent ground fielding and generally straight bowling, notably from Charlie, meant Brookweald found it difficult to accelerate and whilst wickets were not falling, the run rate was relatively slow throughout. The home team progressed to 20 for 1 after 10 overs, 67 for 1 after 20 and when the second wiclet fell in the 23rd over the score was only 76. The run rate did begin to pick up but none of the top order were able to go on to make a big score and the innings closed at 207 for 6.
In reply, Calvin fell early to a leg side catch by the keeper, but thereafter the innings progressed steadily towards what became a relatively easy victory. Vosey played the sheet anchor role admirably, offering a sharp chance in the slips. but otherwise untroubled to make 51 not out. At the other end, Andy played superbly and gave a demonstration of top quality batting, stroking the ball to all parts of the ground. His innings was chanceless and included sixes pulled over mid wicket, driven over extra cover and cut over point, no mean achievement on a ground with long boundaries all round. He ended undefeated on 125 with the partnership worth 188 and the game was won with more than 6 overs to spare.
