Little Baddow Cricket Club Saturday Ist XI v Broomfield on Sat 06 May 2006 at 1.30pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Lost 43 runs
Despite losing both openers in the second over - one caught behind the other retired hurt after taking a nasty blow on the elbow - Broomfield started their innings with a good run rate and maintained the momentum throughout. Built around a hard-hitting 139 from Lancaster, they posted a total of 255 for 6 from their 45 overs. It seemed to be one of those days when shots in the air fell between fielders but three chances that did arise (2 run outs and a catch) were missed. Andy was unable to bowl due to injury and our attack was unable to find sufficient consistency to contain the scoring rate.
In contrast, the Broomfield attack generally got the ball in the right areas. We lost 3 wickets trying to force the pace early on and with Andy having to bat down the order because of his injury, our prospects were looking as gloomy as the weather. Mickey Lawarence (52) and Duncan Gilbert (76) added 96 for the fourth wicket and whilst they were together, we looked like we were in with a shout. Once they were out and in near darkness and persistent drizzle, the innings petered out. We were all out for 212 in the 42nd over.
