Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI v Little Clacton on Sun 20 Aug 2006 at 1.00pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 56 runs
Despite reservations regarding a little dampness in the pitch suggesting batting would get easier later in the day, the skipper elected to bat on winning the toss. The decision looked suspect when both openers were back in the hutch with just 23 on the board. After a brief consolidation by myself and Mickey, things looked decidedly poorer when both perished together with James Stevens within a two over spell, leaving us 69-5 after 19 overs.
Fortunately, Andy Harris was lurking in the mid order and supported excellently by Jamie Greenwood the pair put on 90 before Jamie was bowled for 32 in the 36th over. Chris Harmer and Alex Franklin kept Andy company until the final over with partnerships of 37 and 35 respectively when Andy holed out for a tide turning 117.
The innings closed on 243 for 9
Although wickets proved hard to come by, the bowlers all did themselves justice against a very capable batting line up and kept the run rate well below the asking rate. The opposition skipper, as was the case away, bats through whilst relying on the rest of the upper order to take more of the risks. Whilst he succeeded in carrying his bat for an excellent 105, the support was limited and the reply petered out to 187-6.
The highlights for us was yet another spectacular catch from Mickey, a direct hit run out from the boundary by Alex Franklin, the lack of extras (zero wides, zero no balls and just 2 byes for Jamie Greenwood).
And finally, a big thank you to Mark Franklin and Mark Robinson for coming in at the last minute to give us 11 players after a couple of late pull outs.
