Wormingford v Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI on Sun 10 Sep 2006 at 1.00pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 52 runs
With Ross calling in sick at 11am, it seemed highly likely that we would start with 10. However a text to Andy Harris whilst he was playing football received a positive reply as the coin toss was taking place at 1pm (Andy called wrongly and we were inserted).
The pitch, whilst dry and flat, proved to be very slow with the odd ball holding up significantly and at 18 for 2, with both Stuey and Rob both giving straightforward catches, we were in a little early trouble. Mickey and the skipper batted with a view to consolidating for a while and the score reached 92 without further loss at the end of the 23rd over before the latter was caught behind in the next over for 23. Mickey reached his 50 soon after but was then "done" by a slow ball yorker. With a couple more wickets falling in the next few overs we were precariously placed at 108 for 6 after 29 overs.
However, enter our late substitute, who with excellent support from Ben Picking (Alex' 18 year old next door neighbour) they moved the score on to 199 in the 43rd over before Ben was bowled for a fine debut 39 and Andy finished 67 not out whilst taking the final total to 228 for 7.
We had an early success when another newish recruit, Rob Senatore, had the oppo. skipper caught behind for just 10 (he'd scored 62 at our place). Glen was on the spot and bowled 10 miserly overs for just 17 including 6 maidens without any luck. However, the second wicket maintained a rate that, with the wickets in hand, meant they were still in the game. On two occasions, just as the skipper was signalling for Stuart Robinson to warm up, wickets were taken by Mickey and Adam Harris, the latter bowling the other opener, Booker, for 59.
Eventually, the tail appeared and the game was made safe with Mickey taking the honours with 4 for 29 in 8 overs.
It is hoped that the two wins this weekend will clinch the title with two matches remaining. I'll do the maths once the other results are on the league website.
