Maldon v Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI on Sun 14 Aug 2005 at 2pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
I won the toss and asked Maldon to bat on a blustery day at Drapers Farm. Tight bowling from Ross and Chris H early on kept the scoring rate down, but we managed no early wickets with several aerial shots falling into the gaps. We had a brief interruption for rain at 18 overs with the home team looking reasonably well placed at 66 without loss, but after the break Andy got the breakthrough with an LBW decision and wickets then began to fall regularly. The 7th wicket fell in the 36th over with 142 on the board, but the eighth wicket partnership added 48 with our final success coming off the last ball of the innings.
Chasing 190, we needed a solid start so 0 for 1 after 1 over, 5 for 2 after 3 overs and 22 for 2 at the end of the 12th over were not quite what we had in mind. However, the scoring rate increased as Chris S and Stuart found their form. They put together a match winning partnership of 121 for the 3rd wicket before Stuart departed for 55. Chris followed soon after for a fine 75, despite needing a runner for the second half of his innings as a result of a leg injury. Sachin and Andy saw us home without further alarm and with 6 overs to spare.
Both Chris S (leg) and David (knee) finished the game hobbling, so let's hope they're fit for next week, the start of the long run in of 6 home games.
