Nth Springfield Wanderers v Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI on Sun 29 May 2005 at 2pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Lost 44 runs
The venue was swapped with the match later in the season so this was away at Galleywood's ground.
On a warm, overcast day 3 adults and 8 teenagers took the field. Our bowling wasn't as tight as usual and North Springfield moved along at a decent run rate and we were unable to take early wickets. Consequently, the home side had enough wickets in hand to accelerate as the innings drew to a close to post a score of 241 for 6. Rhys Mason picked up 2 wickets and Adam Harris bowled a tidy spell for 1 for 23 in 5 overs, both in their first game pf the season.
Our innings got off to a slow start against some very accurate bowling from one end and some very wayward bowling at the other, both making it difficult to score runs off the bat. Other than wides, early runs were at a premium and we only had 14 after 10 overs, though all wickets were intact. Whilst the run rate did increase, it was gradual and no-one was able to go on to make the big score necessary. At 20 overs we were 60 for 0, and by 30 overs we were 101 for 4 as the batsmen felt the pressure of the rising asking rate. Steve Harmer made 39 and James Stevens 31, but everyone else got into double figures then lost their wicket. We ended with 197 for 8, a slightly disappointing outcome on a good wicket. For the home team A Sherwin (0 for 25) J Clark (3 for 29) and skipper A Castell (4 for 59) all from their alloted 10 overs, were the pick of the bowlers.
