Little Baddow Cricket Club Lost 5 Wkts
The Little Baddow cricket ground looked a picture on this opening saturday of the league season although conditions didn't actually appear ideal for cricket with rain around and a very stiff breeze flowing throughout the first part of the afternoon. Lt Baddow lossed the toss and were put into bat and soon sped to an opening 50 partnership from messrs Williamson, opening for the first time in league cricket for a good few years and newcomer Nigel O'Dell. Afterthe loss of the first wicket, the scoring rate tumbled and only the efforts of O'Dell and Phil Harris managed to move the score to a respectable total although the home bowlers knew they would have to get regular wickets to stop the opposition on this flat baddow wicket. Nigel O'Dell went onto complete his maiden century for Little Baddow so at least things show promise for the batting in weeks to come. However, as hard as the bowlers tried, the home side couldn't make regular inroads into the Havering batting order although it wasn't until nearly the end of the alloted 45 overs that the target was achieved. Pick of the bowlers for the homeside was Gary Mayhew.
In the end the home side knew that 230 on this wicket was hardly sufficient particularly with more favourable batting conditions. A score of around the 250 mark will need to be achieved for most home games.
