Little Baddow Cricket Club Sunday NECL XI v Maldon on Sat 17 Sep 2005 at 1pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Won 2 wickets
Lost the toss and fielded first on a reasonably warm September afternoon and a wicket that was flat but not terribly quick after mid-week rain. Tom bowled well early on and deserved more than his one wicket and Maldon looked reasonably placed at 51 for 1 after 11 overs. A brief spell from Stuart yielded the important second wicket, exposing the more fragile middle and lower order, and thereafter wickets fell regularly. Apart from Ian Elliot, who made 74 before holing out to long on, none of the batsmen looked comfortable against the leg spin of young Alex Franklin, making his debut in the PDQ league side. Alex Jenkins also bowled tidily and both lads finished with 3 wickets. The other highlight was a sensational catch by Andy Harris to dismiss James Ellis and the last wicket fell in the final over for a below par 192.
Spreading the youth and experience in the batting order as usual, we lost wickets in pairs throughout the innings and made it harder for ourselves than it should have been. With the exception of Rob (33) no one under 18 contributed a run. Two wickets fell before we reached double figures, two with the score on 47, two at 139 and two more on 170. However, a hard hit 68 from Tom and a more measured 61 not out from Stuart saw us home with 2 wickets and 9 balls to spare.
