Little Baddow Cricket Club Saturday Ist XI v Bentley on Sat 13 Aug 2005 at 1.30pm
Little Baddow Cricket Club Lost by 7 runs
Lt Baddow lost the toss and fielded first on a day when rain was always likely to play a part in the game. Stui robinson bowled well in both an opening stint and at the close of the innings to finish with figures of 3-38 from his 10.3 overs. The real bowling star though was Vinay Sharma who bowled well on a dusty track that offered plenty for the spinners - he finished with 4-23 from 9.
The Little Baddow innings didn't get off to the best of starts when first Cole was out for 5 and then Andy Harris for 0. Tom Golding soon followed for 15. Sachin also scored 15 before playing on leaving the side 47-4 with the Bentley total of 174 looking a long way off. With Baddow up to their knees in trouble, Dave 'Swampy' Vose took command and assisted by Vinay took the total up to 123 before Vinay was bowled for 30. Dave continued playing elegant strokes despite the loss of Chris Salmon and Winston both for 0. By this time the rain was getting heavier and it was getting quite dark making it difficult for both batsmen and fielders, while bowlers had to cope with a wet ball.
Swampy eventually fell for 54 with the total on 155 leaving Baddow hoping for the tail to wag. Sadly it was not to be as the last wicket fell on 167 leaving them 7 runs short of the total required.
Another defeat and while relegation is still not a mathmatical certainty it is looking only a matter of time.
